Just a quick video of me and a friend after work doing a quick pull. Not the most professional video, but still fun. R32 was bone stock, G35 had plenum spacer, cool intake, WOT Box, True Dual 3" Exhaust with headers, Megan test pipes, about 150lbs, stock tires, and clutch. I didn't jump, but had the lead. He said they have no output below 140hz 😂😂😂. How do you complain about a speaker you’ve had for a couple of hours. Nothing beats that EV for clean bass output. They’re probably not the loudest but in sound quality not beatable in there price range.
I replaced it with the new madrid 18 and it does jot sound as load as with the original woofer. Have 2 etx 18sp and had same signal going to them side my side and compare them one at a time. The original woofer hit way harder and there was a noticeable difference in pressure between them
I had to put the etx at +10 on the amp to get somewhat the similar spl putput. It goes on temp mode but does not ectuvate temp mode meaning it does not flash temp mode ang go into protectuon mode, so ill have to see in the next few gigs if the amp reduces it by -4db. Question does the amp monitor the speakers temperafure beamcause the amp does not heat up like it does with the original ev woofer but the peak and temp light do come on quick.
I own a pair of EV ETX 18 my fríen owns the same subs unfortunately he blow out one of his subs so I came across this video and decided to replace the damaged woofer for this seismic audio woofer the same exact the new Madrid and it was so disappointing this sound can’t even compare to the electro voice not even close. The reason we didn’t get the original speaker is because there were none on stock anywhere online
Wow , how comes he’s not answering to your comment 🤔

como se fosse possível ouvir caixa de subgrave em fones, só na imaginação mesmo
anyone have the specs for the actual speaker in the ETX sub? The OEM? i want to compare as we plan to replace without having to cut into the cabinet.
I luv JBL speakers
I like that Elektro Voice MTL-2B How much power does it have?
Good video have 4 of these subs used 3 times a week for 6 hours. Finally had a driver give out on my box that's 7 years old. Drivers are definitely not the best. My older subs had to re glue them years ago. But ordered 2 eminence drivers curious to test the difference
This is DJ Marvell of One House One Nation DJs I have 2 EKX sp 18s I upgraded the drivers with the Lavoce San 18 4.50 and the performance is next level the amps in these boxes are underrated so the drivers perform excellent these particular drivers are 1.700 watts rms. They cost me .480 bucks but the result is when others are bringing 2 or 3 subs I can get by using 1 or 2 with much cleaner sound even at high levels and for long periods.
Yo tengo 4 con amplificadores CS 1200 peavey son poderosos.
Подари мне один ))
You can tell dude is not a fun of EV, he is more complain l, downgrading them.
So I finally got a chance to air my upgraded subs out, I used 4 tops and two subs and still had to turn the subs down, my tops are crossed over @ 100hz and so are the subs, man this upgrade is the bomb. My go to tops are the zlx 15p bt and rcf hd 12 As' the 12 A is a sleeper I like sound quality and coupled with the zlx that can be a little harsh on the upper treble the rcf s' can smooth the frequency out once you get the right blend between the two pairs. Most happy with the butter smooth bass at any level now with no clipping. I can't thank you enough for the idea. Bless you bro. DJ Marvell
@Truth B Told / DJ Marvell, SO Happy to hear this success! Absolutely love your configurationm I think you have an extremely ideal setup, and now you have new upgraded speakers all over again :) Please keep us posted as time goes on. We will be making a Seismic Audio Upgrade video that will likely stir tons of commotion soon!! lol Cheers!
Bro I agree the drivers in the ETX and the EKX models aren't very good for the quality of amps that come with these subs, the amps are underrated, I have the EKX 18 SP's and upgraded my drivers to the Lavoce' SAN 184.50 drivers and the sound is amazing bro. After the break in period the amps in these really shine and the bass is super punchy and lower being set at 100hz as well. I used the neodymium version of the Lavoces' and basically got the same result, a monster potable sub that I can use just about anywhere, anytime. Thanks for the info. Sincerely: DJ Marvell
DJ Marvell, AWESOME!!! I just checked those drivers out and I could only imagine how well those are holding up! Thank you for the feedback and support! I do have a recent update after years of banging those full tilt (well, the DJs did). Both drivers, amps and hardware in near mint condition with the small exception of a crossbar inside the box coming loose. It supports the top and bottom from caving in, I believe. It started rattling at a gig towards the end and was drowned out at higher volume (fortunately). Only 1 of two started this, so I opened both, dabbed a little E6000 on each end, slipped it back in place and drilled a undersized 1/8" hole on both sides from the outside of the box right into the bar and simply inserted two 3" stainless screws and WHOLAH!!! No more rattle and I'm positive that was the weakest point so we're probably good for another 3 years! lol. Cheers!
Put more screws in my grills put wood glue on the poles inside as well. Thank you bro. I have two Madrids in my home theater. WOW!!!!
Is THAT A NISSAN 240sx??????????????????
Yes it is!
4 ohm or 8 ohm upgraded drivers? i have some ETX18's and I'm thinking about upgrading to 18 sound 18LW2420 drivers. I always thought the output on these cabinets was coming up a bit short for what they are and now I see why
The original woffer is 4ohm but I think the sa audio woffer only comes in 8ohm.
Should be fine. The etx18sp at 4ohm is 1800 watts and SA audio is 750 at 8 ohm. So if your amp fro. The etx 18 was 8ohms it would running at 900 watts. A little over the rated spwc for the sa woofer here. @@SQchico
Who makes the EV 18" Speaker?
Hi Grant, I believe EV is a U.S. Based MFG and Distributer in Burnsville, Minnesota. The Subwoofer we used for the swap is Seismic Audio, based in Memphis, TN.
@@MrDjanotomus thanks for responding. I have a yorkville cabinet here that uses Celestion speakers. Just curious if EV makes the woofer or do they source it out

Do you think EV will update the ETX line anytime soon? It looks like they were released almost 8 years ago now...
Hi Allen Mangan! Right? These are literally about to reach 8 years with no revisions and or new release models in sight... These are available and in-stock today for the same price point as all the way back when released. I'm excited to try a new ETX subwoofer, however it does not look like it's going to be released this year... What would you like to see in the new model if they were to release one? :) Maybe as a challenge, we can add that or those features to ours as a concept and see how they perform! Shoot for the sky and let's give it a try!!!!
Did you just say the frequency response for EV ETX18SP is NON-EXISTENT under 140hz (6:33)?! I found that very hard to believe; perhaps you were being very sarcastic...I own one of these and they pound. "Terrible" under 140hz is quite a bit of an exaggeration...
Hi Joji George, I mean no disrespect, and this was my unfiltered, unplanned and genuine response to the first impression of the factory subwoofer performance versus the same unit with just a simple driver swap. I promise you, switching from the factory-loaded EV driver to the one I used yielded a SIGNIFICANT increase in output performance as well as frequency response. There are SO MANY different variations to consider, however, we have been using these almost EVERY since and in EXTREME abusive applications with NO issues and nothing but compliments. I LOVE these models and designs, but the driver was a bottleneck to really unlock the quality of the cabinet, amplifier, and the DSP within. I'd love to share more specific info with you if you are interested, such as pics, videos, and more! If you're interested, reach out :)
@@MrDjanotomus Gotcha.

Hi there i know this is an old video but how well does the MTL design handle 38hz up to 60hz Bass ofcourse the drivers used will depict a lot but i'm still curious as i can get a MTL 4 design on the very cheap and want to know if it's worth it btw it will be used in a small venue at a Bar on max 2400 watts so any input would be appreciated.
Hi Erik, I hope all is well! I would say the these are very tight, high output designs that would work very well for a Bar/Small Venue on that power, however I'd only push punchy Mid and Kick Frequencyies through them. The low-end on these are not satisfactory to let's say club music (Top 40s, Electronic, etc.). Perhaps live instruments work best on these, and I'd slap a couple other models with these to fill in that void if necessary. Hope this helps!
@@MrDjanotomus hi these subs are good enough for outdoor live music? How is low frequency?
@@Arema00 I would consider these best used for indoor small venues, and live instruments (drums, bass guitar, etc ). After disassembly and reassembly, testing various categories of music. These do not efficiently produce lower frequencies, great for mid bass only. Hope this helps!
Under 140 hz the EV driver doesn't exist ?? That's a pretty strong statement. I think your numbers are wrong
Hi Scott, it's an exaggeration however the LF response is not good at all with those specific drivers. And the power consumption needed to subharmonic synthesize is impractical. Swapping the driver completely addressed that, which is necessary for our setups which drive very low frequency bass music in addition to full range needs.
Great info, What do you think about P-Audio subs?
Hello! We've not worked with those before. Would you have a specific model in mind? We'd def check into it. Thanks!

I came looking for a 32 gtr and got a vw lol
Hay are those the ETX 18p's with the changed sub??? how are they holding up???
Yes! They are still banging like the first day. Just did a huge Dubstep show this Saturday for 8 hours straight, then a Halloween show the weekend 24 hours straight 🙂 We recently Tightened up the bars and supports in the boxes as they just started to come loose. But absolutely awesome performance. We use them as main stage monitors mostly now.
@@MrDjanotomus I want to do my ETX 15p's...Should I get a sub with the 4" voice coil???
@@jambitch I wouldn't be too concerned about the coil diameter, unless this was a sealed box (which is far from it). I would find a cost effective, durable 15" LF driver with a solid low frequency response and good reviews. I personally would go for the Eminence Delta 15LF-4 15" Driver. Hope this helps!

Hey man. I have 2 elx35p powered 3 way speakers and I feel the same way you do with the bass...i tried to find the seismic audio Madrid you suggested but in 15" size and couldn't they only come in 18. May i ask if you know if the Madrids come in 15" or only 18? Your description is very convincing and I really want to wake these guys up. Thank you in advance for your time.
I believe they only come in 18s and have not been restocked in months.. however I'm confident most higher end low frequency response drivers should yield a similar if not better performance.
The Driver that comes in the etx 18sp is junk! I upgraded to LAVOCE SAF184-03 night and day difference! I can't stop laughing !

Well there went my driver! I need to replace mine and the EV stocks are about $400 shipped! WOW! I'm trying to find better options - so did you say you had to modify and drill to make these fit the ETX cab?
Just the holes in the basket, a couple needed to be rounded out just a little with an oversized bit then they fit like a glove. I am looking into potentially upgrading them to B&C Neos next to take some weight off :)
@@MrDjanotomus wow do know exactly model number and do they fit exact? I'm almost just buying the stock one but would love the handle of the RMS being higher so these things don't blow again. I feel.thats what blew it the first time. I push mine to the edge!!!!
@@zeekhernandez9419 great question! With so many options, it comes down to your budget, availability and some trial & error. I love coming across a how-to video that gives me exactly what I need to expect, but the SAs are likely to be discontinued moving forward. If you drive them to the "edge" all the time, then I would get some heavier ferrite subs, like the SA's that can handle more heat, for longer durations of time. Which RMS or Continuously can handle the 1,800W rating of the amps.I was a little skeptical that those tiny amps were really pushing that much power, but a recent event with a HUGE Dubstep headliner (Toadface) we used them as monitors and they even tripped the 20A breaker (testing time) leading me to believe they are consuming and outputting that rating after all. Still, ran for several days at near clip levels, those darn things did not give out.... lol Sorry I may of rambled there, just wanted to share some more recent experience as well. I have a pair of these actually! There awesome, if I were to upgrade, how do you know what woofer is good for it? Like what makes it compatible? I also have the classic Yorkville LS801P subwoofers and they're monsters.
Hi Elisha! We had a couple 18" Economy drivers around from a Cerwin Vega Earthquake application to use, so we just gave it a try! Still going strong, no issues at all. We are considering going with some B&C Neo drivers next year to lighten them up a bit. Will share if and when we do :)
@@MrDjanotomus that's amazing! I really appreciate the quick reply. I found some b&c woofer as well as Blastking. Both 4in Voice coil, my question is, does the wattage of the woofer matter? The b&c is rated at 3400 Watts and the Blastking is at 1800 Watts.

@@MrDjanotomus oh okay, because I was going to buy the new Qsc subwoofer, but the ev sounds better to me, I’m getting them in 2 weeks.
@@djgazaaka5000 Both are great competitive designs. I prefer the EVs, because I've has such good luck with them, and have all EV Tops. Wish you good luck on your journey! Cheers!
Hey, how is it vs the Qsc ks118 now?
So you took a high end speaker and replaced its proprietary driver with a cheap shit SA driver. You wasted some serious money by doing this, and probably ruined the sound of the ETX’s, and eventually you’re going to destroy the cabinets. Those cabinets are only meant to be used with the EV drivers... that’s why it’s designed how it is.
Hi Dennison, the native drivers were very low quality. In fact, we toasted them with ease. I understand that you may classify SA as cheap, but NOT the New Madrid 18s. They are extremely well designed and high quality, for SA. We have at least 80 hours on both subs since the swap with NO issues. We outcompeted several other rigs running more power than us with these in dBC. "IF" the cabinets fall apart 5 years from now, from how much we've used them, we've got our value out of them.
@@MrDjanotomus also I dont think a wooden cabinet can be destroyed so easily so idk what he is talking about
@@lckite9823 we've been using these almost every weekend, full tilt and still have not had a single issue. So, it's safe to say these have already stood up the test of time. We stand behind this modification 110% 🙂
That's why we professionals buy drivers with the same specs and better quality.
I have 8 of these subs and at the time there were no replacement subs or cone kits available. I tried the Madrid SA's and they sound great in the cabinet. Although I haven't had any problems with my other ETX18SP's, I would have no problem using the SA's.
Looking back we apologize for the poor audio quality... HOWEVER, we fitted these cabinets with experimental drivers and the output was incredibly higher than the OEM drivers with an increased desirable low-end range. We love to challenge stock enclosures with new drivers, for budget or higher output to test the limits and provide feedback to our community. Think inside the box, while outside of it ;) We will be adding dBA and dBC measurements as well as driver details in the future!
Alright just so Im clear. This swap would only work for an automatic correct?
It would be much more work doing this swap from a manual 420A due to wiring and interior layout. The v6 engines don't offer a manual trans that will bolt in either. So Auto 420A to 6G7X Auto is the most compatible path. I'm not saying impossible because it can always work, just depends on how far you want to go 🙂
@@MrDjanotomus Badass! Your the man dude. My hat off to you
@@southernslowdahns9235 Thank you!!! 🙂
And how do you bolt up a 41te trans bolted up to motor? It's a Chrysler transmission on a Mitsubishi manufactured engine?
Hi Brendon, the Chrylser Transmission model "A604" was designed to bolt right up to the 6G72 (3.0) and 6G73 (2.5) Mitsubishi engines. You can use the same ECU and TCMs as well (may have to calibrate TCM). I used the TCM out of a Dodge Stealth which had Autostick. Then wired the pins to the paddle shifters I made out of the cruise control paddles on the steering wheel. Came out pretty cool and DEFINITELY increased the 0-60 as the stock shift points are terrible... Hope this answers your questions!
He's even using the Chrysler ecu that they used on the 2.5 v6
This amp dyno is 2400 a side true power. not 6000. look it up on utube
Hi Gary, the wattage was pertaining to combined speakers and not the amp(s). But yes, the Dyno's are awesome to have for reference. Thank you!

Im a little upset to see you think the drivers in these are a let down. I have been looking into purchasing one of these subs for a while and it has fantastic reviews. I dont want to purchase a $1500 top of the line sub only to have to swap out the driver... Would you recommend the QSC KS118 over these? Im looking for a sub thats really musical and hits the sweet lows just right. Less concerned about thump.
Hi Kyler, the original drivers were a disappointment. Please keep in mind, I bought these at full retail price because I am a firm supporter of this brand and products. I am a Basshead and I dabble in many other applications and projects including car audio. The drivers that come in this cabinet delicate and flimsy. The drivers I had laying around that I put in here are heavier, but also much more heavy duty, and also much more responsive on the lower frequencies. The cabinet, amplifier, casters, pretty much everything else is excellent on the speaker. The front grille can rattle a little bit but that's an easy fix. You will find reviews where people mention the sound degrades over an extended use of high volume. That's because the speakers start to overheat. With the new drivers, this does not happen. I have continuously used these at almost full power for 10 hours at a time. The amplifier remained cool, no kidding. Not even warm. I would buy these again and do the same driver swap before I moved forward to the QSCs because they also have lower quality drivers but higher end cabinets and amplifiers. The QSCs are also more susceptible to be pushed towards the failure point. The EVs have a higher quality protection system in my personal opinion. I hope everything above makes sense, I'm not downing any of these other solutions but I'm just speaking on behalf of the experience with what we've done here. I am extremely happy with the upgrade we did, and these things still continue to surpass my expectations. If you'd like any more specific information videos pictures feel free to contact me directly. Thank you! -DJanotomus
@@MrDjanotomus have you heard the new ks118's? I'll be buying new and am stuck between the etx18 and those. Without replacing the drivers I'm wondering which sounds better. I've heard the etx was way ahead of the kw181 but I've also heard the ks118 is a big improvement to the kw. But is it better than the etx?
@@kylerkiesecker4166 I have not 😬 I understand why you're torn between them. I do feel that the EV amps are superior, but having a set from the factory that you don't have to part with is more ideal. Can you get them locally? This would help with the return policy and give you a chance to test them. But of course times are a little different right now.
@@kylerkiesecker4166 Check out the Yamaha DXS18XLF. They are just a hair quieter than the KS118 but sound superior with a bigger cabinet and hit lower. I also find they're more refined and clean sounding. I opted for them over the KS118. ALSO You can't go wrong with Yamahas 7y warranty.
You took out EV drivers to put in cheap Seismic Audio ones in? Foolish. If you want decent drivers in there try 18 Sound 18W1001 they're proper drivers.
Hi DJ Teknovibe, We appreciate & respect your recommendation. 18 Sound Drivers are fantastic, but still pricy compared to these SAs, which were spares (free). We used these at 12 Events since this video was created and they outperformed even the QSCs in other rigs (multiple stages). We also primarily use these for booth monitors as our Mains exceed 80,000 Watts. The added weight of the ferrite also keeps these cabinets in place.
